Admissions

University Honors is the largest living-learning program in the Honors College at the University of Maryland. Prospective first-year students who have been admitted to the University of Maryland and invited to join the Honors College may be welcomed into University Honors. Each fall, a cohort of approximately 500 freshmen join University Honors.

In coordination with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, invitations to join the Honors College are extended in late January or early February to new first-year students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and promise. After students are invited to join the Honors College, they are asked to express an interest in one or more of the College’s living-learning programs, including University Honors.

Students who express a sincere interest in University Honors are reviewed by program staff. In their statements of interest, students are encouraged to review the program’s academic offerings and to address how they resonate with the program’s mission and values. University Honors welcomes students pursuing degrees in all academic subjects. Students who are selected to join University Honors are notified in late February or early March.

If you are interested in joining University Honors, please indicate this preference on the Honors College preferencing form. For best consideration, please complete and submit this form in your Coalition account no later than February 17, 2020.

If you have been selected to join University Honors, you must confirm your enrollment to the university no later than May 1, 2020. Once you do so, your enrollment in University Honors will be assured.

While University Honors does not have a residency requirement, many students elect to live in Hagerstown Hall during their freshman year and beyond. In order to secure a place in Hagerstown, you must apply for housing by May 1, 2020. If you miss this deadline, you may be unable to secure on-campus housing.

University Honors hosts summer orientation sessions at which incoming students have an opportunity to learn more about the program prior to the start of the academic year. For further information about these sessions, please follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; check our website for reminders; and contact us with questions.
